Pepper White Clubman S

This potentially could be my next MINI that I will order next year. It has all the options I’d like, but also have black side stripes as well. The interior is the standard black leatherette, I might be changing that to the cloth interior like I had on my 2004 MCS. 6 speed manual tranny, front driving lights (when I added the front black driving lights on miniusa website they didn’t come in right, so I left them off), silver stripes on roof, but I might order custom ones from cooperflags I just need to find out if they can provide me with pepper white color stripes, that would look a lot better I think. I do like the way the JCW aero kit looks like. I did see it in person on the Rally edition Clubman and it looks great! I didn’t order a sunroof, but I did get the cold weather package (it gets cold here in Michigan) as well as the convenience package. I decided to skip the sport package and the premium package. The black 17″ Crown Spoke rims with the performance  tires look awesome on this MINI,

but I will have to order some snow tires for the winter here in Michigan, most likely with a set of steel rims… black of course :) I’m sure next year or maybe even tomorrow I’ll have a different idea of how my next MINI should look like, but for now I’ll stick with this one. Motor On!

The Beatles' Mini

photo: BMW

Need For Speed: Shift Review

We have all found ways to satiate our car lust in the interim time that our supercar of choice is unavailable. Be it a hot wheel collection, a magazine or oft-visited website (made up of handsome, exciting and popular contributors), our greatest automotive fantasies are constructed with the materials available to us. Being just shy of 30 (renew!), I’m fortunate enough to have been a part of the generation that grew up on the magical device that allows us to vicariously experience our wildest fantasies from the comfort of our living room: the home video game console.

The Need for Speed series of games has been around for a very long time, taking its loyal fans on a tumultuous journey throughout its many evolutions. In the beginning it was a virtual cruise through Road & Track, which then expanded to different modes keen to fuel the enthusiast’s desire to perform such acts as outrunning the fuzz in a Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR through a gothic cityscape in the dead of night. The series then went Underground, focusing on modded-out rides and pandering to a demographic that believes an aftermarket spoiler bolted to the trunk of a Honda Accord imbues it with stunning agility and street cred as it sets the highways ablaze with streaks of neon.

Need for Speed: Shift is the beginning of a new era for the series, taking the action off the street and bringing it to the track, with a focus on bringing the player as close to the fray as possible. The game puts you in the role of a driver just setting off at the start of a racing career that will take the player from tracks and events across the globe, mastering different styles and crafting a personality based on your unique driving attitude. Your race engineer is the narrative voice that gives advice and introductions for the game’s many events. He starts you off in a hot lap in a BMW M3 that determines what control setup and difficulty is best recommended for you, which you can arrogantly ignore and apply the most hardcore settings if you so choose (and later humbly reset after some eye-opening humility).

I attempted to be as pro as possible, turning off much of the assists and immediately removing the visible driving line on the track. That’s just…no. The one setting that defeated me was my attempt to play with a manual transmission, as the makers of the game chose to place the upshift and downshift buttons on the controller right above the triggers used for gas and brake, so if I wanted to upshift, my finger had to leave the throttle, and, most frustratingly, the other had to leave the brake for the sake of a downshift, which in a pinch I want to do simultaneously. With no way to re-map the buttons, (this was on the Xbox360 and I assume it’s the same on the Playstation 3), I was forced to relinquish control of the transmission to the game.

In Shift, much attention has been given to emulating the sensation of speed and, indeed, the dramatic loss of it. An in-car view is available, with pleasantly detailed interiors that can be scanned freely, with fully functioning gauges and upgradable features, plus usable mirrors. The development team seems to be aware of how distracting enjoying the interior details can be when you should be paying attention to the race at hand, so you’ll notice everything inside of the car slowly blur at speed, forcing your eyes to concentrate on the world through the windscreen. Looking up too late will treat you to the jarring sight of a tire wall or barrier rushing towards you, and plowing into it turns the screen into a distorted, shaky mess as the game does its best to make you really feel like you’ve had a serious collision. The degree of the impact determines just how dazed the perspective becomes, from the full-blown aforementioned madness, to a little color de-saturation and gauge rattling for minor scrapes. All this knocking about will reflect on the cars as well, depending on the settings you choose. If you’re going for as much realism as possible, the shunts and slams that your car endures will reflect on the body and performance of the vehicle. While there isn’t a way to fully incapacitate your car, a massive accident will leave your ride a crumpled mess with low power and skewed alignment.

The car you choose will be one of many in the 4-tier system available to you based on your driving level. Tier 1 contains cars such as the BMW 135i and the Volkswagen GTI, while higher tiers promise the chance to purchase supercars like the Pagani Zonda and Bugatti Veyron with the in-game currency you’ll earn. Being a green racer when you pop in the disc, only a handful of cars will be unlocked for purchase, and your initial funds allow for only the most frugal choices. As you progress, you will unlock more tiers, with higher performance cars, garage spots, and different visual and performance upgrades for both the interior and exterior.

As mentioned before, your skills in NFS:Shift are measured in your driver level. At level one, you’ll have only bare-bone essentials at your disposal, but as you race, you’ll advance in rank as you earn points for podium finishes and different challenges for particular races (such as hitting a certain speed or spinning out a number of competitors), as well as points earned for the two branches of driving styles that define your progression: Precision and Aggression. You’ll earn Precision points for driving the line, clean passes, and managing corners properly, and gather Aggression points for trading paint, throwing the tail out, and generally muscling your way through the grid. The system seems fairly responsive, but I spent a few races shoving rivals out of my way, only to inexplicably end up with a “Precision” badge at the end of the race because I managed to drive a decent racing line most of the time.

Tracks like Brands Hatch and Spa-Francorchamps mix in well with the various fictional tracks designed for the game.  A series notorious for its product placement has found a good medium in track advert postings and car liveries, so don’t have the feeling that the game is shilling any particular product. Some of the menus for tuning and customization could be a little more user friendly. You can paint the car in numerous configurations and apply decals, but there isn’t a way to have a design on one side of the car perfectly mirror the other, which will work the OCD of in-game car artists hard. Other than this section, your currently selected car will be featured in the background, spinning and being shown off at various angles. This is nothing particularly worth mentioning until you attempt to change the body kit in the upgrade menu, which sits opaquely on top of this animation. The kits are functional and there’s a graph that shows the difference in performance if you choose to install it, but it’d be nice to see what my car would look like if I did so, especially since if you select a kit, it is applied to the car animation as a preview, only visible through the spaces in between the menu windows.

Assuming you don’t play the game in the 3rd-person perspective, the only ways to enjoy your visual tweaks are through the after-race replays where you can also pause and take snapshots of your car at various angles, inside and out. I spent a lot of time in photo mode just for the sake of scrutinizing and enjoying the in-car details without having to worry about driving, taking pleasure in nit-picking features of real-life cars I’ve driven, and pretending to be behind the wheel of cars that I haven’t, which seems to me is the point of the game—fuel for the fantasy. Players of the game will enjoy the gameplay, but most of all, they’ll revel in opportunities, like pitting a Reventon and a Veyron head-to-head at Laguna Seca to see who’d win, even if it’s just make-believe. Even so, in lieu of the real deal, it might be a good way to settle a few bets.

BMW readying entry-level 1-Series M

While rival AMG has gone after the supercar market with its SLS, expect BMW’s M division to respond with a baby blaster. Sources at the high-performance-oriented M division insist that while it would love nothing more than to combat the SLS head on, its key priority is to rush in a sub-M3 hot BMW on to the market.

While BMW itself has this market nicely covered with the twin-turbo, in-line six-cylinder 135i (and even the 123d for Europe) coupe, highly-placed sources insist the next-generation 1-Series will have a high-speed M flagship.

The baby M should line up against the next Audi S3, which would pitch its pricing at around the €35,000 mark in Europe, or probably $10,000 less than the next-generation M3 in North America.

With M now headed by former Mini brand manager Kay Segler, the idea of a hotter two-door has taken root in M division, with Segler insisting: “The priority right now is a more affordable model underneath the M3.”

It’s not likely to carry over the M3’s screaming V8 engine, though. Sources tell Leftlane that it will probably develop the 135i’s straight-six to punch out around the 330hp mark.

One thing’s for sure, though: The baby M will not follow the naming tradition of the rest of the range to carry a simple “M” before its body series.

“The M1 name to us is a sacred thing for a car that marked an important turning point. It won’t be called the M1,” a source told Leftlane.

Instead, it could be simply the 1-Series M.

BMW To Make New Kinds of "Cars"

Recently BMW has been introducing new concept “cars” which work without fuel. They are not exactly cars, they are animals.Yes this does sound a bit weird but the truth is the truth and after all nothing is impossible. It is said that BMW has already tried it on few of the animals.Believe it or not, their maximum speed would 200 km/h which is the same speed of a normal car. They have fitted an M30 straight six cylinder engine into their stomachs and a 11-1125 FORK SPG BMW – Progressive Suspension - .They have also put wide screen navigators on the animals and tested if their plan could work,it was a total success. The last thing remaining to finish the job was comfortable seats. They put a single seat on each of the animals and did a test drive and once again a success. The chairman of BMW said that their actual goal is to save fuel. The price for this would be starting at $ 20,000 .BMW hopes that in the future everyone starts using their new product and save fuel.

Can Martha Stewart Ever Vote Again?

You can totally dismiss TOY ota as a valid car maker, more like liars, crooks and con artists

U.S. criticizes Toyota for 'misleading' (LYING) public in recall

Washington — The government sharply criticized Toyota Motor Corp. Wednesday for its
“inaccurate and misleading”
suggestion that sudden acceleration in some vehicles bound for recall may be due only to improperly fitting floor mats.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's criticism of Toyota's statement is the latest hit to the automaker's reputation from what will be the largest safety recall in its history: 3.8 million vehicles.

NHTSA said Toyota inaccurately suggested in a press release this week that the agency had concluded “that no defect exists in vehicles in which the driver's floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and properly secured,” the agency said in a statement.

“It was never our intention to mislead or provide inaccurate information (BS) . Toyota agrees with NHTSA's position that the removal of the floor mats is an interim measure and that further vehicle-based action is required,” said Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons.

“We are in the process of developing vehicle-based remedies to help avoid the potential for an unsecured or incompatible floor mat to trap the accelerator pedal.”

On Monday, Toyota refuted suggestions that other defects might be causing the accidental acceleration, and pointed to the government's decision not to investigate a consumer complaint.

Bob Carter, general manager of the Toyota-brand division of Toyota Motor Sales USA, told reporters there is “absolutely no evidence” pointing to a defect other than poor-fitting floor mats.

Sean Kane, president of Massachusetts-based Safety Research & Strategies, said Toyota was “waving the agency's denial of the latest petition for a defect investigation like a victory banner.”

While NHTSA hasn't found a vehicle-based defect that is causing unwanted acceleration, “it doesn't mean there isn't one,” he said. “It just means that the agency hasn't found it.”

NHTSA says removing the recalled floor mats is the most immediate way to address the safety risk.

“But it is simply an interim measure.
This remedy does not correct the underlying defect in the vehicles involving the potential for entrapment of the accelerator by floor mats, which is related to accelerator and floor pan design,” the agency said.

Toyota’s Lexus recently unveiled its highly anticipated and first-ever LFA Supercar at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Lexus announced that their luxury LFA Supercar will go into production this December. Orders are now being taken at http://www.lexus.com/LFA/.

The launch of the LFA high-performance supercar, illustrates a strategic move by Lexus as it enters the exotic sports car market alongside such legendary names as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin.

The LFA will offer a bold design structure with an intensely powerful engine that is unlike any other Lexus vehicle on the road today. Lexus is redefining the supercar for the 21st century.

The first Supercar by Lexus redefines the segment with ultimate performance, featuring:
• 4.8L V10 Engine Generates 552 Horsepower for Powerful Rear-Wheel Drive
• Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Helps Provide a Light and Strong Structure

The Lexus LFA supercar will be on display for the first time in North America at two back-to-back premier venues – the 2009 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas this November and the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show in December.

In 2010, Lexus will show the LFA Supercar at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Chicago Auto Show, Dallas Auto Show and New York International Auto Show.

As the first Lexus supercar, the LFA serves as the flagship for the F portfolio of Lexus performance models and redefines the supercar for the 21st century. The Lexus F brand complements the core Lexus DNA by emphasizing serious performance. The LFA was carefully developed from a blank canvas by a small and dedicated team of hand-picked engineers that pushed every possible dynamic boundary.

“The development of the LFA was unlike any other Lexus,” said Mark Templin, Lexus division group vice president and general manager. “Minute details were engineered to provide an engaging and serious supercar that delivers impressive performance on and off the race track. Only 500 will ever be built worldwide, and each will be assembled to customer order, offering a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of a small, exclusive group of individuals.”

Courtesy of: Lexus

All 500 LFA supercars will be hand-assembled by skilled technicians in the “Lexus LFA Works” at the Motomachi Plant in Toyota City at a rate of no more than 20 per month.

The rear-wheel drive LFA is dynamically styled and powered by a sophisticated new high-revving 9,000 rpm (redline) 4.8-liter V10 engine that generates 552 hp and 354 lb.-ft. of torque for adrenaline-fuelled 202- mph performance. This specially-developed powerplant is paired with a unique six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox (ASG) with blazing-quick paddle-activated shifts for ultimate driver control.

Linked by a rigid torque tube for excellent drivetrain integrity, the ASG is located in a transaxle layout over the rear axle for an optimal 48:52 front-to-rear weight distribution. Motorsport-developed lightweight aluminum alloy suspension components are complemented by Carbon Ceramic Material (CCM) brake discs and an innovative electrically assisted rack and pinion steering system.

Lightweight, powerful and balanced, the LFA features advanced Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) construction for its chassis and much of its bodywork to deliver a light, incredibly strong and impact-resistant structure. Rather than outsource this sophisticated materials technology, the LFA team took the radical step of developing its own CFRP processes internally for ultimate quality control and to make a sound engineering investment in the future.

The LFA’s sporty styling is distinguished by coherent lines that flow from roof to sill in a seamless convex to concave line for sophisticated aerodynamics. Its front-mid engine layout, long wheelbase, short overhangs, and snug, low-slung cabin identify it as a supercar.

CFRP also gave the LFA’s designers a far higher degree of design freedom, allowing them to create shapes, curves and edges that would have been impossible with metal. For example, the sharp trailing edges at the rear of the LFA that help provide superlative aerodynamics would not have been possible had traditional metal been used for the bodywork.

A dramatic low-slung cockpit has been intelligently designed and hand-assembled with the finest materials to reflect the car’s driver-centric dynamics. The intimate two-seat cabin has been conceived at every stage – ergonomics, acoustics, materials, comfort, versatility and visibility levels have all been painstakingly engineered – to put the driver at the center of the driving experience.

Production of the LFA supercar will begin in December 2010 with deliveries continuing for the following 24 months.

Consumers may contact the Lexus LFA Information Center at 866-LFA-4794 to express interest, or visit www.Lexus-LFA.com for more information.

Can Martha Stewart Ever Vote Again?

When and whether federal inmate No. 55170-054, Martha Stewart, ever votes again depends on which of her homes she claims as her primary residence after release from the federal correctional facility. Stewart owns several homes, one each in Connecticut, New York and Maine.

The Fourteenth Amendment grants power to the individual states to determine whether to disenfranchise its citizens “for participating in rebellion, or other crime.” States typically interpret felonies to belong to the nebulous category, “other crimes.”

Most people assume that all felons forfeit the right to vote for life, but only 37 states deny the right to vote to convicted felons who have paid their debt to society. Currently, 48 states and the District of Columbia deny incarcerated felons the right to vote, Maine and Vermont being the only exceptions.

Residency's Role in Reestablishing the Right to Vote

Is it the residence in New York, Connecticut or Maine that Stewart calls home? One of those must serve as her primary residence at any given time, but that has proven unclear in the past, especially to Stewart. In 1991, she told New York authorities that the Westbury, CT residence was her primary residence, claiming that her East Hampton, NY home was uninhabitable. In fact, one of those recitations of the facts took place under oath. In the Christmas issue of her magazine, she must have been confused, because she referred to the uninhabitable East Hampton residence as home. Perhaps the heart of the inconsistency lies in the definition of the word “uninhabitable,” or perhaps East Hampton sells more magazines than Connecticut, but this editorial oversight cost Stewart dearly-in excess of $200,000 in back New York state income taxes, fines, and interest.

If Stewart claims Maine as her primary residence, not only would she be allowed to vote as a convicted felon after serving her sentence, but she would also be allowed to vote by absentee ballot while serving her prison sentence in whatever federal correctional facility Stewart will temporarily call home sweet home. Since Stewart has never claimed Maine as her primary residence either informally or under oath, it's unlikely that she will be the target of any get-out-the-felon-vote initiatives.

If Stewart decided to inhabit her Connecticut farmhouse for 183 or more days of any given year, then she would still be able to vote upon completion of her sentence. Connecticut does not automatically reinstate the right to vote for discharged prisoners. Instead, the felon bears the burden of proof that the sentence has been fully discharged. In addition, the felon must satisfy all fines and penalties levied in connection with the conviction. Until submitting satisfactory written proof to the office of the Registrar of Voters, convicted Connecticut felons cannot vote.

Given that that Stewart plans to serve out the additional five months of her sentence at her Bedford, NY estate, it is likely that she would meet the residency requirement to vote in the state of New York. If Stewart claims her current Bedford, NY estate as her primary residence, her disenfranchisement would end automatically at the conclusion of her sentence or parole, whichever comes first. No further action would be required on Stewart's part.

Regardless of her final destination after confinement, she need only comply with state regulations in whichever state she will call home to reclaim this all-important civil right. Since Stewart leaves little to chance, one wonders how 100% of her homes happen to be located in states that allow convicted felons to vote. Was this an entry on her real estate checklist, falling somewhere between rich, fertile land and rich, old-money neighbors?

Petronas to stay with Sauber

The Malaysian sponsor Petronas is likely to stay with its long term F1 partner Sauber now that Toyota has withdrawn from Formula One.

With Sauber’s plans uncertain following BMW’s decision to quit, it had been rumoured that Petronas intended to stay in F1 next year by switching to another team.

Lotus, with Malaysian ownership, was touted as a favourite to receive Petronas, and team boss Tony Fernandes confirmed to the New Straits Times newspaper that an approach was made.

“As it is, it looks like an announcement will be made by Petronas in the coming days once it becomes clearer whether that vacancy left by Toyota becomes Sauber’s,” said a source.

“If Sauber are back in F1 for sure, and it looks a virtual certainty, then Petronas aren’t going anywhere.”

Happyland!

WTCC at Okayama: Races

1st Race: Victory for Andy Priaulx

Andy Priaulx claimed his second World Touring Car victory of the season with a hard-fought win in a torrential first race of the day at Okayama.

A downpour half an hour before the start meant the race had to be started behind the safety car. When it peeled off at the end of the second lap, Priaulx inherited the lead almost immediately when pole-sitter and championship leader Gabriele Tarquini let his car drift too wide on the approach to Turn 2, Williams Corner, and slid wide across the grass.

Priaulx, who only missed out on pole by 0.050s in qualifying yesterday, needed no further invitation to stake his claim on the race. He and fellow BMW driver Jorg Muller moved away at the front, while third-placed Jordi Gene made a mistake and fell behind Rob Huff, and then slowed to sacrifice himself for his SEAT team-mates.

Huff was left to chase the BMWs from a distance, but Priaulx and Muller were left to contest the race between themselves in the closing stages.

Priaulx’s car dropped off towards the end as he struggle with fading brakes. Muller closed in with three laps to go and attack him doggedly to the finish. There was plenty of powersliding and a bit of door banging, as Muller attacked at the hairpin and again at Redman Corner, but the team-mates kept it clean and Priaulx survived the final turns to clinch his 12th career WTCC win.

Yvan Muller was gifted fourth place by title rival Tarquini’s first lap off, and Gene’s sacrifice, while Tarquini himself recovered to fifth past Tiago Monteiro and Gene to minimise the loss to Muller.

Augusto Farfus continued the habit of his season by recovering from an incident on the first lap to take eighth place and pole position for race two. This time the Brazilian followed Tarquini wide at Williams Corner and dropped to 14th.

As he approached the top 10 he came across a battle for eighth already in full flow, between independent championship leader Tom Coronel, the Lada of James Thompson and the Chevrolet of Alain Menu.

Menu and Farfus made their way ahead of Thompson and Coronel and engaged each other in a heated scrap to the end. They touched several times before Farfus threw his car down the inside of Menu at Mike Knight Corner. There was contact when Menu turned in an the Chevrolet was punted wide over the grass, giving the place to Farfus.

Coronel completed the top 10 , with Thompson 11th and Nicola Larini 12th. Coronel’s nearest class rival was Felix Porteiro in 14th, who survived a late duel for the place when Stefano D’Aste spun off on the last lap.

2nd Race: Augusto Farfus leads BMW 1-2

Augusto Farfus kept his slim World Touring Car title chances alive with his fifth win of the season in Sunday’s second wet race at Okayama.

Farfus made a sound getaway from pole and had BMW team-mate Andy Priaulx riding shotgun for him – from eighth on the grid – by the exit of the first corner, thanks to carnage off the line.

Jorg Muller’s fast starting BMW shot up to the front off the line and he tried to move inside Tiago Monteiro’s SEAT for second place on the main straight. Monteiro squeezed Muller onto the wet grass, where the German lost control of his car and speared into the side of the SEAT. Muller was later given a drive-through penalty for his part in the incident.

Both cars spun off at the first corner, taking the SEATs of Jordi Gene and championship leader Gabriele Tarquini with them. Countless cars then flew off the road in all directions at the treacherous Turn 2, where aqua-planing was a problem all day.

That left a jumbled order at the end of the first lap, with Priaulx second, Tarquini’s main title rival Yvan Muller surviving in third and Alain Menu – who had only missed out on the race two pole in the final corners of race one – up to fourth from eighth. Felix Porteiro was fifth, ahead of Jaap van Lagen, Stefano D’Aste, James Thompson, Tom Boardman, Nicola Larini and Kristian Poulsen.

The best of the charges back to the front came from Rickard Rydell, who peaked at seventh (from 13th) and Rob Huff, who made it up to sixth from 17th.

Farfus and Priaulx ran a controlled race up front – the only drama coming when Poulsen spun his car in front of the lead pack on the main straight.

Muller was grateful just to take a handful of points back from Tarquini in third, with Menu unable to make any impression on him from behind.

Jordi Gene had escaped the first corner in fifth, but carried damage with his rear bumper falling off during the race. The Spaniard once again played a team role and gave away four places – two to Chevrolets – in the last two laps to allow Tarquini through.

Rydell also moved over to give Tarquini two points for seventh, behind the Cruzes of Larini and Huff.

D’Aste claimed the independent class win in 10th after Tom Coronel was delayed by the spate of off-road excursions at Turn 2 on the first lap, and Porteiro went backwards from his early fifth to 11th. Coronel finished 13th, behind the BMW of Sergio Hernandez.

Lada had looked to be in for a good points haul with van Lagen sixth and Thompson eighth, but both pulled into the pits to retire within a lap of each other.

The charity of his team-mates means Tarquini is two points ahead of Muller heading to the season finale in Macau, with Farfus a further 11 back.
